£18? To hear God’s Word? And you provide your own lunch, so that the excuse can’t even be made – ‘Oh, well, it is to cover refreshments, etc..’?
Perhaps I should start an entrance fee each Sunday?
I wonder how much they made from the ‘Sermon on the Mount’ conference in Matthew’s Gospel… Judas must have been thrilled!

A lecture series is a very different kind of thing from a sermon, a conference is a very different thing from the covenant renewal worship of the people of God. I would have no objection to paying to hear a non-Christian lecture on some subject for a day; in principle I see no reason to object to hearing a world-renowned Christian scholar lecturing either. I pay tuition fees to hear people lecture on the Bible in university; I don’t see how this really differs. Of course, if I had to pay to hear them preach I would raise a stink.
That said, the price is a bit steep.
£18 to hear “God’s word”, Pencils? Are you thinking of the same Bishop Wright as I am?
Haven’t got time to say more than just applaud the sentiment…

I was at the conference last Saturday and I can say it was definitely worth £18.00. It’s refreshing to find a Bishop as committed to expounding Biblical truth as Wright.
