Podcast: Animals

Mere FidelityFor this week’s Mere Fidelity episode, Matt Lee Anderson, Andrew Wilson, and I are joined by our friend Karen Swallow Prior (the author of the recent biography of Hannah More, Fierce Convictions). We discuss the recent evangelical statement on the welfare of animals by the Every Living Thing Campaign. Within the episode, I also make mention of this article on cat videos.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and could probably spend a few hours commenting on it, but I will resist that temptation and be brief here. I really think that the piece de resistance was the poetry recital 😉 There’s definitely something about cats – no wonder Bagpuss is so popular!

    • Pleased to hear you enjoyed listening to this! We thoroughly enjoyed recording this one: Professor Prior was a wonderful guest, the subject was great, and we all had a lot of fun. 🙂

Because of the baby, I haven’t listened, but did you mention Derrida’s famous line: “nothing will have ever done more to make me think through this absolute alterity of the neighbor than these moments when I see myself seen naked under the gaze of a cat.”?

      • Unfortunately, not. Matt’s patience for the praise of felines was running thin by the end of the show!

Absolutey – I wish I’d had time to comment on more aspects of it .

  4. Did I just hear Matt say “supurrrrrrfluous” in relation to cat videos?
